When I used to teach English as a private tutor during my stay at the University of Tsukuba (reading for PhD), each lesson was divided into three phases. In the first phase, I taught some grammar points while reviewing the grammar points taught in the previous class. In the second phase, I asked the student to reproduce a story or a reading passage discussed/thought in the previous class. During this session I interrogate students. Third phase I allow the student to watch a small piece of video or listen to a conversation based on which I used to ask some questions. The materials used varied depending on the level of the student. The above-explained standard style sometimes varied according to the requirements of the student.
