I listen carefully and take notes. Lessons can have variety, but generally, I do not use textbooks. I address common weaknesses amongst Japanese English speakers such as pronunciation, intonation, communication style, verb congregation, and inclusion of the final “s” sound. Repetition practice is key, like chants and card games. I try to circle in on each person’s interests and how they wish to use English (TPO). We often practice dialogues and role plays. I use a lot of gestures, encourage gestures and I try to make repetitive activities fun and fun activities meaningful.
